Profile of KSG

The primary objective of Krankenhaus-Service-Gesellschaft, based in Bergisch-Gladbach, Germany, is to take over the strategic buying process from social institutions such as hospitals, nursing homes and rehab clinics. Whether their customers are in need of gloves, furniture, food or other products, KSG delivers the required consulting and operational services. These services range from negotiating prices and conditions to support in purchasing and logistics. KSG has successfully established a customer base of 14 large medical institutions, 64 nursing homes and many other social organisations. Contact: Bruno Grünewald, Tel. +49 22 02 244 155.

Profile of Marien-Krankenhaus

The Marien-Krankenhaus hospital was founded in 1896 by the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor in Bergisch-Gladbach. The organisation was turned into a general hospital in 1976 and became a teaching hospital for the University of Cologne in 1982. The hospital has over 330 beds, plus another 89 beds in a nearby rehabilitation centre. It employs over 600 full-time and part-time professionals, covering a wide range of specialisations such as internal medicine, geriatrics, neurology, surgery, orthopaedics, anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine.

Using Ansell gloves now standard pratice in large group of hospitals and nursing homes

The advisory services provided by Krankenhaus-Service-Gesellschaft (KSG) are available to a wide range of social institutions. KSG's services range from purchasing advice to general day-to-day supply management. The Marien-Krankenhaus Bergisch-Gladbach is one of the organisations that operates under the aegis of KSG. This hospital uses Ansell medical gloves virtually exclusively. In a healthcare institution where almost all areas of medical specialisation are represented, it is vital to have a partner able to deliver gloves for all needs.

Optimum quality in patient care is only possible if hospital staff can focus on their job. Every social institution, however, has to carry the burden of administration and it takes a whole team just to handle supply management.

The challenge: guaranteeing high patient focus while keeping a close eye on supply logistics and budgets

Top-quality medical services require a vast array of supplies, ranging from gloves to furniture. Juggling limited budgets, tight delivery schedules and the effective use of resources has become a matter for purchasing specialists. By handling supply management, KSG not only relieves the hospital of a large chunk of administrative duties, but also helps staff to work in the safest possible conditions, both for the patients and themselves.

The solution: KSG and Ansell, architects of the extended glove strategy

The ability to deliver all of the different glove types needed by the various departments was one of the key criteria in selecting the right partner. KSG knows their customers can only save money if they adopt an umbrella approach to quality and is well aware that gloves that are unsafe to staff and/or patients not only cause suffering but also increase costs. So the decision to use Ansell as the exclusive supplier of gloves for all medical and paramedical services was only taken after a year of extensive testing. The full offering of Ansell products and services now makes life easier for everyone. As well as providing quality-consistent examination and surgical gloves, Ansell also handles customer needs in terms of conducting internal surveys and staff training, as well as providing safety tips. The surgical staff at Marien-Krankenhaus is also involved in shared research projects designed to come up with new and better solutions for safety in the operating theatre.
In addition to the on-going market comparisons based on pricing and quality carried out by KSG, Ansell also maintains extensive contacts with the hospital to monitor staff experiences with gloves. This extended partnership enables issues that might arise in delivery schedules and other areas to be resolved very quickly.

The benefits: high-level partnership

KSG and Ansell manage the total glove strategy for Marien-Krankenhaus:

  • Ansell has an overall partnership with KSG, but acts on a direct basis with the hospital
